One Equal Music – Schola Cantorum of Oxford
Schola Cantorum of Oxford is one of the country’s leading chamber choirs. Celebrating its 51st season, Schola Cantorum is made up of students at Oxford University and gives lively and entertaining performances of a huge variety of choral repertoire with a bright, radiant and energetic sound. Schola Cantorum of Oxford is led by renowned conductor James Burton, and they have toured all over the world, broadcast on radio and TV and recently received acclaim for their new recordings on Hyperion.
One Equal Music is an evocative programme of choral works by composers including Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Harris, and Britten. The theme of music itself is explored in works culminating in Britten’s evocation to the patron saint of music A Hymn to St Cecilia. Schola Cantorum will perform James MacMillan’s Bring Us, O Lord God, written especially for them last year, and also sing works from the Renaissance period, including the Gloria from Antoine Brumel’s spectacular twelve-part Earthquake Mass.
